** VERSION 1.0.78 CHANGELOG

1ABUG : into the lunar perigee and apogee window Moon phase (%) was not corrected shown in case of UT1 computation. SOLVED.

1BBUG : left click on the EARTH Stereographic view has been adjusted to behave like EQT and HOR view.

1CBUG : into the comets window orbital period (years) of elliptic orbits was not correct. SOLVED.

1DBUG : asteroids and comets window. When changing max magnitude the graphical windows were not immediately refreshed. SOLVED.

(2) Now UrukFSP uses IAU official constellation figures.

(3) Equinoctial and Solstitial Colures added to EQT and HOR views.

(4) CrossHair coordinates moved to the upper right area of the graphical windows. EQT and HOR views.

(5) Added a compass at the lower central part of the graphical window. HOR view.

(6) Slightly increased the size of labels into the EQT and HOR views.

(7) RIse/set window: now it is possible to show rise/culmination/set values for a day before or after the current date. Especially useful for locations having a TIMEZONE pretty far from GMT.

(8) Clicking inside the panels containing the mouse pointer coordinates now switch between sexagesimal and decimal mode. This setting will be kept in memory.

(9) Selecting Bayer Notation for stars now shows Greek letters only (α, β, γ, etc.).

(10) Constellation names are now more visible. Sagittarius is splitted in two parts, weird but basically correct.

(11) – USER OBJECT WINDOW – Either J2000 or JNOW equatorial coordinates can be entered now. The figure below is pretty explanatory on how you can do it. Basically I’m an ASIAIR user, and every time I use a mount not handled by software like the Star Adventurer old model I find useful to transfer plate solved coordinates (ASIAIR returns JNOW coords) into UrukFSP via RA and DEC boxes in order to realise where the telescope (and sensor field) is pointing. Now I can do it with more accuracy (HH MM SS.S and DD PP SS.S) by means of the User Object Window.

(12) See page “How UrukFSP works” Section (4) about how stellar magnitudes are shown.

(13) Main window: Longitude and Latitude now are unsigned, E W N S buttons handle sign of these values.

(14) Below the Sun Window there is and indicator showing Main Engine calls.

(15) In order to simplify bug detection UrukFSP writes some activities into a Log file located in USR_PATH/Logs. Three different level of logging can be chosen via Options : 0 = Errors only (default), 1 = Procedure Level. 2 = Detailed. Log file survives until a new application run is executed. Careful with Level2, it generates huge files and should not be used under normal conditions.

(16) New version of Event files, V7. This time there’s no compatibility with preceding versions, old events must be create again. Sorry for that.

(17) Copy and paste from Clipboard added into the JDN field of Input Date window.

(18) (7) Redesigned window showing Rise/Transit/Set of Planets. I developed a new iterative algorithm using derivatives instead of interpolation of 3 positions. It’s more accurate than Meeus’ method and should maintain a ± 1s mean error all over the time span of DE441. In addition Azimuth of rising and setting and max altitude at culmination are showed.

(19) EQT View can be set as a white background map, so a chart can be easily printed after saving as image.

Current position of C/2017 K2 comet.

New version is ready and will be under test for a while. I’ve already done Vizier’s queries for new Gaia DR3 data, but integrating those new data into UrufFSP is a delicate job and will require a certain amount of time.

  1. Hi
Every quarter, I send to the members of my History of Astronomy Commission an Information Letter. In the last Letter, I presented UrukFSP emphasizing the usefulness and high quality of this program for research in the History of Astronomy, indicating the download links and adding that updates are very frequent.
Now that the GAIA DR3 catalog is available, it would be interesting to compare the positions of certain stars in the HYG3 or Tycho-2 catalog to determine the discrepancies.
Thank you for all these constant improvements.
    Regards

    1. Hi,
thank you for your information letter. Visibility is the biggest problem of UrukFSP right now.
      I just gave a look to DR3 source data…. it’s impressive!
