Well, the JPL DE438 is under test, few days and the new version will be out. This means that who’s gonna download the application will be able to use it within the range 1550 – 2550 BCE immediately. But frankly if one needs to do scientific research on ancient phenomena (eclipses, transits, etc.) downloading the DE431 files is strictly necessary. The application will automatically detect the presence of the DE431 files and switch between the two ephemerides when needed. In these days I’m testing that everything’s fine be means of SOLEX12, a beautiful program made by Prof. Aldo Vitagliano, a sort of reference for checking planetary calculations. First tests are encouraging.
