Well yes, it was in the 18th century that to observe those transits of Venus one had to travel from Europe to remote and inauspicious places on Earth. It was in the 21st century in 2004 and 2012 that we were lucky enough to see them pretty well from Europe. I personally watched the 2004 transit from my home.
